SUMMARY:CES 2023: What "Human Security For All" Means for Today's Business Leaders
DESCRIPTION:Hybrid Format\nWed Feb 8\, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm\nPlease register by 7 pm\, Feb 7. Select either “In-Person” or “Virtual via Zoom.” \nOn the evening of Feb 7\, we’ll send a reminder email (w/ Zoom link) to all registered. \n*************** \nFrom our TIGER Talk presenter\, Brad Griffith of Buckeye Innovation: \n“Our customers\, employees\, and shareholders are humans\, contrary to how we sometimes treat them! \nRather than treating them impersonally\, like users\, resources\, or even robots\, we have an opportunity to recognize their humanity and address their innate need for security. The Consumer Technology Association set a theme for the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that encouraged exhibitors\, presenters\, and attendees to meet that human need for security. \nPlease join me to learn the consumer technologies that will disrupt all of our industries over the next decade and how we can apply technology creatively to improve equity\, access\, and belonging for all. From the Metaverse and blockchain to smart devices of every sort\, I’ve seen some serious disruptive technology. \nCES 2023 saw a big resurgence in exhibitors and attendees\, marking a significant recovery from 2022. I attended virtually again this year with more comprehensive remote access to sessions than in any previous year. I will share highlights and lessons from the best keynotes and panel discussions as well as will review the practicality of several intriguing gadgets. \nMy favorite author\, Clayton Christensen\, said it well when he said\, “You may hate gravity\, but gravity doesn’t care.” Much like COVID variants\, technology keeps changing. It’s a force we all deal with\, and it’s important that we learn to predict some of the changes\, prepare for what we can\, and then expect the unexpected. \nJoin me to hear about what industry titans and startup entrepreneurs know to be the trends and strategies that will shape our future work and personal lives. \nFor the past 15 years\, I have loved attending the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas because it’s my opportunity to absorb trajectory-altering lessons and insights from industry experts and thought leaders. These insights have changed the way I approach business strategy and have enhanced many aspects of the way I live my life. Traditionally the largest technology trade show in the world\, this year’s third digital CES conference and trade show were different but still captivating. Next year I hope to return in person. \nIf you are a strategic thinker leading a team into a potentially volatile future\, this talk is a must. I promise to share quotes\, trends\, and transformational lessons that will help prepare you for the next evolutionary and revolutionary changes in your company.“ \n*************** \nBrad Griffith is a lifelong entrepreneur. He grew up working for his dad’s veterinary hospital\, learning the joys and challenges of business ownership. He believes in the power of entrepreneurship and innovation to drive meaningful change in our community. Brad is now President of Buckeye Innovation\, the web strategy and engineering team he founded in 2009 to amplify the impact of innovative businesses and organizations through exceptional web engineering and design. His team of 16 includes designers and developers who love building and supporting websites\, web applications\, and mobile applications. Buckeye’s clients span many industries and include tech startups\, libraries\, and local and county governments among others. \nPrior to starting Buckeye Innovation\, Brad spent several years consulting and developing web applications in-house for a variety of companies including JP Morgan Chase\, QUALCOMM\, and the Go Big Network. He earned his Masters in Business Administration after completing his Bachelor’s in Electrical and Computer Engineering with honors\, both at The Ohio State University. Brad has more than 28 years of web development experience and has worked from coast to coast with small and large companies\, educational institutions\, non-profit organizations\, and government agencies to build innovative web solutions. He lives in New Albany with his wife and two young daughters. He is an active Girl Scouts “Troop Cookie Dad” in addition to other community volunteer roles. \nBrad was selected in 2020 to the inaugural class of the Columbus CEO Future 50. Buckeye Innovation was recognized in the 2022 Inc5000 as one of the country’s fastest growing private companies. Brad was also selected as a finalist for the 2023 Small Business Leader Award from the Columbus Chamber of Commerce\, his second time as a finalist. \n*************** \nLike all TIGER Events\, this one is FREE. \nHybrid Format – Event Timeline: \n11:30 am – Lunch & Socializing (In-Person Participants) \n11:45 am – Connect via Zoom (Virtual Participants) \n11:50 am – Introduce Yourself to All (In-Person & Virtual Participants) \n12:05 pm – Hand-off to Brad \n1:00 pm – Wrap \n[expire-content date=”2023-02-08 1:00pm” message=”This event has passed so registration is closed.”]Oops! SUMMARY:Cash Flow and Value Creation
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY 2/17/23\, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm \nNOTE: This event will be IN-PERSON at Innovate New Albany (8000 Walton Pkwy\, Suite 200\, New Albany\, OH 43054) \nPlease come ready to interact with our presenter and your fellow participants. \nAnd\, please arrive at 11:30 am. Enjoy lunch. Mingle. Make new friends! \n*************** \nIn this TIGER Talk\, Eric Rucinski discusses cash flow and value creation in the context of critical business decisions\, including those involving:\n• Entire companies and divisions\n• New product lines and markets\n• Initiatives and investments\n• Mergers and acquisitions (buy / sell decisions) \nMr. Rucinski describes the inherent deficiencies in relying solely on accounting information\, and the unique benefits of higher-powered financial analysis. Going far beyond mere accounting (which is necessary\, but not sufficient\, for informed decision-making)\, he discusses cash flow and value creation in a comprehensive manner\, synthesizing strategic\, financial\, and economic analyses and insights. Mr. Rucinski uses easily-understood analogues (e.g.\, buying a house) to provide a powerful\, memorable framework for thinking about and improving complex business decisions. \nParticipants will leave with an enhanced understanding of cash flow\, what drives it\, why it is fundamental to value creation\, and how it differs from often-used (but highly-flawed) metrics like EBITDA. \nParticipants will also gain a deeper appreciation for the importance and unique benefits of in-depth\, fact-based financial analysis in making a wide range of high-dollar\, high-impact\, high-emotion decisions related to both their day-to-day operations and long-term term strategic objectives. \nAnd\, participants will be empowered to ask key questions of their employees and advisors that they previously never considered or knew how to articulate\, to resist the urge to accept superficial information and conclusions\, and to create and maintain a focus on value creation. \n*************** \nEric Rucinski is Founder and Principal of Advanta Consulting LLC\, an independent consulting firm that focuses on strategy\, corporate development\, growth initiatives\, M&A\, financial modeling / valuation\, investment decisions\, capital structure\, and special projects. He is a trusted senior adviser to top executives (including CEOs at public and private companies) and owners (including high-net-worth individuals and families). His 20+ years of experience includes high-impact full-time strategy\, corporate development\, and M&A roles at The Wendy’s Company\, The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company\, Limited Brands\, Borden Capital (private equity)\, and Salomon Smith Barney (Wall Street investment banking). \n*************** \nLike all TIGER Events\, this one is FREE. \nTimeline: \n11:30 am – Lunch & socializing \n11:50 am – Guests introduce themselves to our in-person crowd \n12:05 pm – Hand-off to Eric \n1:00 pm – Wrap \n[expire-content date=”2023-02-17 1:00pm” message=”This event has passed so registration is closed.”]Oops! SUMMARY:6 Power Habits of Entrepreneurial Leaders
DESCRIPTION:FRIDAY 2/24/23\, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm \nIN-PERSON at Innovate New Albany (8000 Walton Pkwy\, Suite 200\, New Albany\, OH 43054) \nCome ready to interact with our presenter and your fellow participants. \nAnd\, please arrive at 11:30 am. Enjoy lunch. Mingle. Make new friends! \n*************** \nOur TIGER Talk speaker Jon Iveson offers the following description: \nWikipedia states that “an entrepreneur is an individual who creates and/or invests in one or more businesses\, bearing most of the risks and enjoying most of the rewards. The process of setting up a business is known as entrepreneurship.” \nJim Collins\, author of the influential books Good to Great & Built to Last\, defines leadership as “the art of getting people to want to do what must be done.” As such\, “the number one responsibility of a leader – is to catalyze a clear and shared vision for the company and to secure commitment to and vigorous pursuit of that vision.” \nBased on my learnings as the Founding Director of the Ohio State Fisher College Center for Entrepreneurship and my subsequent 18 years coaching small and mid-size growth companies\, it appears that entrepreneurial leadership seems to emerge in enterprises when the founding entrepreneur shifts from the ”leader with many helpers” mindset to the chief executive mindset where he/she must build an “A” player leadership team capable of driving the strategic execution that will move the company to being a substantial commercial and societal impact. \nWe will discuss the 6 Power Habits that must be mastered to lead an enterprise on a sustainable successful journey. \n*************** \nJon Iveson is a Strategic Execution Coach with Assured Strategy. \nJon has been coaching entrepreneurs\, executives\, and leadership teams to deliver superior results and have distinctive impact for over 18 years. Prior to that\, Jon coached leaders\, managers\, and aspiring entrepreneurs as the Founding Director of the Fisher College of Business Center for Entrepreneurship. He has many client case studies and testimonials from those 18 years that prove his profound value to clients in driving strategy\, alignment\, execution\, and accountability. \nJon has worked with clients in a variety of industries. His progressive degrees in engineering and management systems from Clarkson University and education at The Ohio State University provides him with a unique understanding and influence regarding the psychology of team dynamics\, team learning\, team alignment\, team accountability\, team productivity\, and team growth. \nDuring his long career as a coach\, Jon has helped client companies in fabrication\, manufacturing\, landscaping\, aviation\, healthcare\, education\, entertainment\, software\, banking\, housing\, marketing\, HVAC\, electrical\, lighting\, language translation\, financial services\, contact center\, IT services\, and the print services industries. His long-term purpose in life is to activate leadership passions\, styles\, and skills to do great things. \nJon has been certified in coaching through Franklin Covey\, Scaling Up (previously known as Gazelles)\, Value Builder\, Gravitas Impact\, and Metronome United (i.e. 3HAG and Metronomics). \nJon’s specialties include: \n\nLeadership and Management Team Alignment\, Health\, Accountability\, and Performance\nHealthy Constructive Conflict Facilitation\nStrategic Thinking\nExecution Excellence\nLeadership Development\, Growth\, and Resilience\nStrategic Execution\nAdvance Insights Assessment Expertise and Coaching\nExecutive Coaching\nPublic Speaking\nWorkshop Facilitation\nPeer Group Coaching and Facilitation\n\nAs a spiritually inspired father\, Jon is very engaged with his 17-year-old daughter and her activities. Jon also enjoys biking\, hiking\, and golf to stay physically\, mentally\, emotionally\, and spiritually engaged outside of his coaching work. \n*************** \nLike all TIGER Events\, this one is FREE. \nTimeline: \n11:30 am – Lunch & socializing \n11:50 am – Guests introduce themselves to our in-person crowd \n12:05 pm – Hand-off to Jon \n1:00 pm – Wrap \n[expire-content date=”2023-02-24 1:00pm” message=”This event has passed so registration is closed.”]Oops! SUMMARY:Beyond ChatGPT: Threats and Opportunities of Big AI - Part 1
DESCRIPTION:WEDNESDAY 3/22/23\, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm \nIN-PERSON at Innovate New Albany\, 8000 Walton Pkwy\, Suite 200\, New Albany\, OH 43054 \nBe ready to interact with our presenter and your fellow participants. \nAnd\, please arrive at 11:30 am. Enjoy lunch. Mingle. Make new friends! \n*************** \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Michael Compton as he examines the present and future of ‘Big AI’ in this 2-part series\, which delves into the convergence of new deep learning AI models with unprecedented parallel computing power\, massive datasets\, and deep corporate investment that is poised to have a transformative impact on all of society. \nIn the first talk on Wed 3/22/23\, Michael looks at the underlying technology\, as well as infrastructure\, behind the Big Tech language models and discusses the opportunities and challenges in integrating this technology into your business. He examines the sudden rise of transformers and their impressive capability to engage in complex human-like conversation. While this is a fundamental revolution in itself\, transformers are not just limited to language but can disrupt almost every corner of our economy in only a few years. \nIn the 2nd talk in this series\, 2 weeks later on Wed 4/5/23\, we will look at the arrival of multimodal AI. Beginning with the new “AI Art” generators\, we will then look at even more advanced multimodal AIs that can “think” across diverse forms of data\, such as vision\, audio\, olfactory\, chemistry\, code\, text\, images\, and many others. This 2-part series concludes by considering whether multimodal AI is a key stepping stone towards achieving an Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) that can perform any task that a human can\, across a wide range of domains\, with or without supervision. \n*************** \nMichael Compton is a multi-talented expert in Service Design and CX Strategy who facilitates the development of new services and customer experiences in different cultures\, sectors and categories\, within cross-functional teams and production pipelines of different sizes. \nAs an entrepreneur\, Michael has launched 4 different successful start-ups\, 3 of them achieving annual multiple $MM revenues\, while raising $10MM in venture capital. SUMMARY:Beyond ChatGPT: Threats and Opportunities of Big AI - Part 2
DESCRIPTION:WEDNESDAY 4/5/23\, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm \nIN-PERSON at Innovate New Albany\, 8000 Walton Pkwy\, Suite 200\, New Albany\, OH 43054 \nBe ready to interact with our presenter and your fellow participants. \nAnd\, please arrive at 11:30 am. Enjoy lunch. Mingle. Make new friends! \n*************** \n\n\n\n\n\nJoin Michael Compton as he examines the present and future of ‘Big AI’ in this\, the 2nd part of our 2-part series. This series delves into the seemingly rapid rise of new deep learning AI models with unprecedented parallel computing power\, massive datasets\, and deep corporate investment. Combined\, these huge trends are poised to have a transformative impact on all of society! \nIn the 1st talk on Wed 3/22/23\, Michael looked at the underlying technology\, as well as the infrastructure\, behind the Big Tech language models and he discussed the opportunities and challenges in integrating this technology into your business. He examined the sudden rise of transformers (Wikipedia definition) and their impressive capability to engage in complex human-like conversation. While this is a fundamental revolution in itself\, transformers are not just limited to language but have the ability to disrupt almost every corner of our economy in only a few years. \nIn this 2nd talk on Wed 4/5/23\, we will look at the arrival of multimodal AI. Beginning with the new “AI Art” generators\, we will then look at even more advanced multimodal AIs that can “think” across diverse forms of data\, such as vision\, audio\, olfactory\, chemistry\, code\, text\, images\, and many others. \nThis 2-part series concludes by considering whether multimodal AI is a key stepping stone towards achieving an Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) that can perform any task that a human can\, across a wide range of domains\, with or without supervision. \nEven if you missed the 1st talk in this series\, you should still plan to came to this 2nd one. You will not feel lost and you’ll gain many important insights! As an organization builder\, Michael has navigated the change from lean start ups to structured management teams\, as well as helping technical service firms become strategic consultancies. \nMichael is CX Innovation Lab Program Manager for the Denison Edge program\, operated by Denison University . \nAmong Michael’s previous roles\, he served as Innovative Media Domain Expert for Amazon Web Services and Assistant Professor\, Master of User Experience Design Graduate Program at Columbus College of Art & Design . \n*************** \nLike all TIGER Events\, this one is FREE. \nTimeline: \n11:30 am – Lunch / Socializing \n11:50 am – Introduce yourself to our crowd (your “best 20 seconds”) \n12:05 pm – Hand-off to Mike \n1:00 pm – Wrap / T-Shirt Drawing / More Socializing \n[expire-content date=”2023-04-05 1:00pm” message=”This event has passed so registration is closed.”]\n \n Name*\n \n \n \n First\n \n \n \n \n Last\n \n \n Email*\n \n Company*Consent to Use My Image & Voice*By registering for & participating in this event\, I am consenting to the recording of my image and/or voice. SUMMARY:Humanizing Work
DESCRIPTION:FRI 5/26/23\, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm \nIN-PERSON at Innovate New Albany\, 8000 Walton Pkwy\, Suite 200\, New Albany\, OH 43054 \nBe ready to interact with our presenters and your fellow participants. \nAnd\, please arrive at 11:30 am. Enjoy lunch. Mingle. Make new friends. \nIs your favorite flavor of Agile work methodology resulting in process over people?\nIs your contribution mired in man hours that inevitably turn into mythical man months?\nAre human efforts in heroic zeros and ones measured in seemingly pointless (story) points instead of customer\, business\, and employee value (ROI)? \nWhat began as a technology revolution has devolved into frameworks and processes that focus solely on mindless over mindful measuring\, tracking\, and projecting. And while many organizations find initial success that generates interest and demand for scaling agile and digital transformations\, even more common is the ultimate disappointment in not achieving the desired outcomes promised by even the most well-intentioned technologists. \nPlease join Jariatu Mansaray and Charlotte Chang for this TIGER Talk and you’ll learn that all is NOT lost. \nIf we just look to our past we find evidence of achieving the outcomes we hope to see in our futures\, both for organizations and as individuals. In today’s business landscape modern work is often misunderstood\, applying archaic approaches and mandating standards based on a world that no longer exists. To effectively navigate where it’s going\, being ready requires the often undervalued human skills of observation\, adaptation\, and evolution. \n*************** \nJariatu Mansaray is a people-focused product coach at Industrial Logic with a passion for empowering teams and driving results. She specializes in process operations and change facilitation among dynamic organizations. As a Co-Founder and the Executive Director of Black Tech Columbus\, she is focused on creating community and job and career advancement opportunities for minorities in the Central Ohio technology community. As an agile coach and product consultant with a background in chemical engineering and trauma-informed counseling\, Jariatu began her career in technology focused on finding and implementing outside-of-the-box solutions for organizations of all sizes. From training startups in cloud technology to managing cybersecurity programs for one of the country’s largest financial institutions\, she is focused on using Agile methodologies to ensure effective outcomes. When she isn’t working\, she spends her time trying new restaurants and traveling with family and friends. \nCharlotte Chang is an Experience Director with nearly 20 years of experience in technology and product strategy. She enjoys working with executives\, managers\, and teams to create Systems of Compassion that provide a sustainable\, humane\, inclusive experience for all contributors throughout product development. Recently\, her experience has focused on launching new products\, marketing and brand management\, and designing change within organizations. Previously\, she has worked with companies across multiple countries\, industries\, and company sizes\, performing every role on a delivery team: iteration manager\, product designer\, user experience\, business analyst\, developer\, and tester. Learn more at Charlotte’s website\, The Passionate Pragmatist. \nAnd\, OK … time for two truths and a lie: Charlotte’s work was featured in the New York Times\, Charlotte has two cats\, or Charlotte enjoys a quality high five. SUMMARY:Why Focusing Solely on Revenue May Be Killing Your Company
DESCRIPTION:WED 9/6/23\, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm \nIN-PERSON at Innovate New Albany\, 8000 Walton Pkwy\, Suite 200\, New Albany\, OH 43054 \nBe ready to interact with our presenters and your fellow participants. \nPlease arrive at 11:30 am. Enjoy lunch. Mingle. Make new friends. \nBusiness owners understand the importance of revenue and sales in growing their business. It’s fun to watch your business thrive\, but what about your company’s infrastructure? \nHave you ever thought: “Hey\, we’re growing! We’ll focus on that boring operational stuff later.”? It can be put off for only so long before you’re forced to face it. And\, it usually happens in the form of an expensive\, disruptive “OH\, NO!” moment. \nThat moment could be:\n• Needing to scale up to deliver on a new contract\n• Needing money to expand or even just to make payroll\n• Your best employees start jumping ship\n• Being sued by a former employee or a customer\n• Getting a letter from a government agency\, etc. \nIt doesn’t have to be bad news\, but it usually is unexpected. \nIn this TIGER Talk\, Diana Dibble and Molly Gimmel will make the often-tedious topic of business operations accessible and fun. Their in-the-trenches expertise will help you understand the infrastructure and other essentials that will keep you in business and thriving for the long haul. \n*************** \nDiana Dibble is the CEO of Tripod Coaching & Consulting LLC™\, which opened in 2022. D2DInc was ranked #32 on the Women Presidents Organization’s list of Fastest Growing Women Owned Companies in 2016. \nIn 2021\, Molly founded the Vellamo Leadership Institute to bring together like-minded individuals who strive to grow as leaders. SUMMARY:25 Amazing Innovators & a Liberal Arts Major Walk Into a Bar: Lessons on Leadership & Growth from "Innovation on Tap"
DESCRIPTION:WED 10/4/23\, 11:30 am – 1:00 pm \nHYBRID Event: When you register\, select “In-Person” or “Zoom.”  \nEither Way: Be ready to interact with our presenter\, Eric Schultz\, and your fellow participants. \nIn-Person: Arrive at 11:30 am. Zoom: Log in at 11:45 am. Everyone: mingle & make new friends. \nPull up a barstool and settle in for an hour of conversation about innovation and leadership as told by 25 highly accomplished entrepreneurs — living and dead — gathered in a virtual barroom. Eric Schultz sketches the history of American innovation in his latest book\, Innovation on Tap: Stories of Entrepreneurship From the Cotton Gin to Broadway’s Hamilton.  \nFor this TIGER Talk\, Eric will choose a handful of stories from the book — including a look at how community played a critical role in creating Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Hamilton — with takeaways that you can apply immediately to your start-up or innovation project. \n“Think of business history as one giant laboratory\,” Schultz says. “None of the experiments can be replicated exactly\, but many can provide valuable insights into your current innovation and entrepreneurial challenges.” \n*************** \nEric Schultz earned his BA Degree in History at Brown University and might have spent a career in the ivory tower of academia\, but wandered into a GMAT test one Saturday and ended up with an MBA from the Harvard Business School. \nConsequently\, he devoted his career to leading high-growth technology businesses\, including as CEO of Sensitech\, a venture-backed “supply chain visibility company\,” which was ultimately acquired by Carrier Corporation. \nIn addition to authoring Innovation on Tap\, Schultz is co-author of Food Foolish: The Hidden Connection Between Food Waste\, Hunger\, and Climate and King Philip’s War: The History and Legacy of America’s Forgotten Conflict. \nSchultz lives surrounded by STEM professionals\, including a father\, wife\, and daughter who are all engineers\, but he has always found ways to mix history and business. He remains convinced that liberal arts majors are essential players in the global innovation community! \n*************** \nLike all TIGER Events\, this one is FREE. \nTimeline: \n11:30 am – Lunch / Socializing \n11:50 am – Introduce yourself to fellow participants (your “best 15 seconds”) \n12:05 pm – Hand-off to Eric \n1:00 pm – Wrap / More Socializing \n[expire-content date=”2023-10-04 1:00pm” message=”This event has passed so registration is closed.”]Oops!
