Design thinking, a form of human-centered design, is a fun, powerful, and team-strengthening approach to reframing opportunities and upping your game. When you dig for deeper insights about the people you’re designing for, you reveal entirely new sets of solutions.

Whether your passion is retail, B2B, developing a better staff, starting a non-profit, growing the booster organization, or improving the next networking event, what you have in common with the next coffee shop is that success might be more about the user experience than the coffee.

In this workshop we’ll learn by doing, so bring your curiosity and let’s see how many innovative solutions we can create. So often … it’s not about the coffee.

Steve Krak is the Red Frame Lab Coordinator at Denison University, an entrepreneurship and design thinking resource for students, faculty, and staff. Steve has a 25-year history as an engineer in photonics and microfabrication, program manager, project manager, group manager, intellectual property manager, and business developer at Battelle, the world’s largest independent R&D company. Steve left Battelle to become an education consultant in a successful USAID project to design and stand up the first STEM schools in Egypt, and he facilitates the work of STEM Learning Ecosystem communities building coherence in their education offerings in addition to his work at Denison.

Mary Henton assists individuals and teams at the threshold of change and eager to take next steps toward professional or personal growth. She’s a coach, consultant, and facilitator with 30 years experience in the small business, not-for-profit, university, and private and public education contexts. Most recently she was on staff of Congo Initiative, a Congolese-envisioned and directed, holistic initiative responding to the need for ethical, indigenous leadership in DRCongo. She served as Strategy and Development Facilitator then Director of Faculty Development and Bilingual Affairs at the Université Chrétienne Bilingue du Congo, the central program of Congo Initiative.
