  • Visiting Entrepreneur: Tanisha Robinson

    After serving as an Arabic Linguist in the U.S. Army, Tanisha Robinson studied Arabic
    and Political Theory at The Ohio State University. Upon receiving a fellowship, she
    moved to Damascus, Syria, and worked in women’s and human rights throughout the
    Middle East for almost two years.

    Upon her return to Columbus, she built and sold an affiliate marketing portfolio, and
    went on to become the founder of Fudha.com, a daily deal site focused on locally
    owned, independent restaurants that was later purchased by 614 Media Group.

    Robinson is currently the co-founder of Print Syndicate, a design/technology/marketing
    company with an ecommerce platform devoted to providing well-designed, socially
    relevant, high quality products to consumers, on-demand.

    Robinson will talk at 6 p.m. Wednesday, March 29, at the Canzani Center at Columbus College of Art & Design (60 Cleveland Ave.). The event is free and open to the public. It is part of a special program within the Beeler Gallery Visiting Artists & Scholars Series called Creative Economy in the Capital City: A Design & Branding Series. The program will highlight Columbus’ rich history of design, branding, and innovation and will be on most Wednesdays at 6 p.m. in March and April.

    Nate Ames is the Engineering Manager and Associate Director at the Center for Design and Manufacturing Excellence at The Ohio State University. He is an instructor within the university’s Industrial Design program and has over 20 years of experience in product design and manufacturing. His presentation will identify the qualifying principles of sound product development that will transport your product through design, prototyping, testing, and commercialization. Bring your ideas, questions and intrigue to this free presentation by an expert trained as an engineer and perfected in the manufacturing industry on local, national and global platforms.

  • Energize your Team and Light Up the Business Scoreboard

    Part of our TIGER Workshops Series:

    Why do sports teams exhibit so much passion, energy and dedication to their team? What if our business team could exhibit these similar traits?

    In this workshop, we will explore how to energize your team using the Scoreboard tool approach and discuss the five criteria needed for successful implementation. We will spend time understanding how to keep the score and understand the key levers that all businesses utilize to impact the Scoreboard.

    We will accomplish this by using an interactive tool to examine the impact of the P&L with the balance sheet. Finally, we will review how each organization defines key success criteria for their Scoreboard. We will bring all this together via a real life story of an expat going to China to lead a struggling business.

    Gary Landsettle retired from Ashland Inc after 36 years of service in 2015. After spending his first 10 years in R&D, Gary transitioned to the commercial side of the business holding various managerial position in the manufacturing and distribution businesses of Ashland. Gary received numerous training & development opportunities with Ashland including Dale Carnegie: Effective Speech & Human Relations, ACC Simply the Best Managerial Development, Northwestern Kellogg School: Finance for Mgrs, Prosci change management and Profit Specialist. In 2013, as the APM North American Commercial Vice President, Gary accepted the assignment as the APM Asia Pacific Vice President located in Shanghai China.

    After retiring in 2015, Gary volunteers at WARM in Westerville and is an Adjunct Prof at Otterbein University MBA program teaching Product Development and Innovation.

  • Startup Grind Columbus Hosts Jim McGrann (VSP GLOBAL)

    Jim McGrann is focused on members first and creating a unified strategy for the five lines of business of the company. That focus includes refining VSP’s omni-channel strategy, continuing to develop innovative eye care practices and eyewear technologies, & adapting to changes in the optical and healthcare industries.

  • New Albany Community Foundation's Jefferson Series Presents David H. Petraeus

    The Jefferson Series presented by The New Albany Community Foundation welcomes General David H. Petraeus
    U.S. Army, Retired and former director of the CIA Interviewed by Dr. Peter Mansoor, Colonel, USA (Ret.),
    Raymond E. Mason, Jr. Chair of Military History at The Ohio State University

    General Petraeus served in Cold War Europe, the United States, Central America, Haiti, Bosnia, Kuwait, Iraq and Afghanistan. In the decade that followed the 9/11 attacks, he was deployed for some six-and-a half years, culminating his career with six straight commands, five of which were in combat.

    General Petraeus is most widely known for his roles in the subsequent several years. On returning to the United States following his second tour in Iraq, he oversaw significant improvements in the U.S. Army’s preparation of leaders and units for deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan, including guiding the development of the Army/Marine Corps field manual on counterinsurgency. He then returned to Iraq to command the Surge and guide the implementation of the counterinsurgency manual’s concepts. During his 19-1/2-months at the helm of the Multi-National Force-Iraq, violence was reduced by some 90%, Iraqi forces were reformed and expanded, and transition of tasks to Iraqi forces was advanced considerably.

    Following retirement from the military, General Petraeus served as the director of the CIA, leading the agency during a period that saw significant achievements in the global counter-terrorism effort, initiation of a comprehensive strategic plan to guide the agency, conduct of an effort to increase worldwide human intelligence coverage, establishment of the agency’s Economic Security Center, and commencement of a number of initiatives to increase the agency’s investments in its human capital. He has received numerous U.S. military, State Department, NATO and United Nations awards and decorations. He also has been decorated by 13 foreign countries.

    You will learn how to set up Leads, Accounts, Contacts, and Opportunities – and even how to customize them to fit your business. You will also learn how to access your CRM data from the free Salesforce1 Mobile App.

    Mike Leibrand is an entrepreneur from the Columbus area. Earlier in his career, Michael set up and successfully exited two technologically sophisticated apparel companies in Hilliard – Ares Sportswear and Dyenomite Apparel. (Exits were in early 2016.)

    In the summer of 2016 Mike started his latest venture, Summit Technologies, a Salesforce Consulting Partner. In the latter half of 2016 Mike obtained four Salesforce certifications, and at the beginning of 2017 moved into new offices in the Brewery District along with his new consulting team which includes a Delivery Manager, Account Manager and Salesforce Developer.

    To gain the most from this workshop, each attendee should bring his/her own laptop and smartphone. Before the workshop, please register for a free Salesforce Developer account – it’s not just for developers! It intentionally has limitations that make it impractical for companies to use for their operations (because it is free!), but it is a great sandbox to learn Salesforce. “You can’t break it,” so we can hack away during our session with no concerns!

    If you’ve ever considered WordPress but thought it was too intimidating, Darin Young will show you how to get started. Darin will go over installation, navigating the interface, installing essential plugins, and creating your first page.

    This workshop will be geared toward the WordPress beginner, so don’t be afraid if you have no WordPress experience at all.

    Darin Young is the owner of Mixt Media, a marketing technology agency. He helps entrepreneurs and small businesses elevate their presence online through custom Wordpress sites, setup and integration of online marketing tools such as email lists, analytics, and CRMs, along with videos and podcast production to further enhance their online brand. He also produces the Creative Pursuit podcast, encouraging others to pursue their own creative passion.

    Darin has a background in radio, video production, and web design. He has worked with a number of local startup companies and organizations, including Rev1 Ventures, Innovate New Albany, Columbus Startup Weekend, Startup Grind, Clarivoy, and Ardina. He is originally from Hawaii and has also lived in Tokyo, San Francisco, and now Columbus.
