Origin Malt is a virtual resident at Innovate New Albany.  One of the founders of Origin Malt is New Albany resident Victor Thorne.

Origin Malt is an innovative supplier of high-quality malt, cultivating relationships between farmers, researchers and brewers with the intent to bring malt — the soul of craft beer — back to the Midwest. Prior to prohibition in 1920, barley accounted for nearly 350,000 acres of Ohio’s crops. As of 2017, that number dropped drastically to fewer than 500 acres of barley being grown for malting purposes. Within the next five years, Origin Malt will plant at least 75,000 acres of malting barley and operate a brand new, state-of-the-art malt house in Central Ohio. Origin Malt is bringing malting back to the Midwest while pushing the industry forward with ingenuity and a hand-tailored approach to every piece of the supply chain. Regional craft brewers, who value quality, innovation and local connection, can currently purchase from Origin a locally grown two-row winter barley– Puffin. Origin Malt aims to provide products that push the boundaries of malting through better partnerships and processes, celebrate the heritage of Midwest malting and brewing and drive the industry into the future.

  • Tue Mar 12 – Hosted New Albany resident Adam Beckman.  Adam is the co-founder of a new business focused on delivering live career education programs for professionals seeking federally licensed positions in the aviation industry.  Adam’s goal is to build a company which can deliver its programs across the US.  Explained the mission and programs of INA and directed Adam to other valuable resources in the Central Ohio entrepreneurship community.  Invited him to participate in our TIGER Events and Expert Office Hours programs.  Also encouraged Adam to locate his business at INA.
  • Thu Mar 14 – Attended seminar event entitled “Building a Product Your Customer Wants” at the Dublin Entrepreneurial Center arranged by leaders at Rev1 Ventures.  This talk was led by Dr. Rachel Angel, Founder & CEO of PEERRO.com, an app-based startup that helps employers find entry level employees typically aged 18-23 with high school diploma. PEERRO provides employers the advantage of a ready supply of candidates pre-screened for their qualifications and work ethic as judged by teachers, guidance counselors, or previous employers.  This resource could be helpful to companies in New Albany that struggle to find  enough qualified candidates for their open positions, including manufacturing, assembly, etc.  I have approached the New Albany Chamber of Commerce to see if this resource can help New Albany-based employers and/or students and recent grads form New Albany High School.
  • Mon Mar 25 – Attended event, “BLK Hack Invades ROOT.” Event took place at offices of early stage innovatorRoot Insurance in downtown Columbus.  Networked with other attendees and members of the Root leadership team.  Explained the mission and programs of INA and invited people to participate in the programs we offer.
