Spotlight Company: Buddy Up Tennis

Buddy Up Tennis is a high-energy, adaptive tennis and fitness program for children and young adults with Down syndrome. This organization provides fun and rewarding 90-minute clinics on a weekly basis. Already serving over 550 individuals with Down syndrome with the support of over 750 volunteers and 65 coaches, Buddy Up Tennis is implementing plans to continue growing in many other cities and states. Buddy Up Tennis is an Ohio non-profit corporation with a Section 501(c)(3) charitable organization status and relies on charitable contributions for funding.

  • Mon Jun 4 – Hosted Atty. Steve Karzmer (a New Albany resident) of the Columbus office of Calfee Halter & Griswold LLP. Explained mission of Innovate New Albany, gave a tour, and explored ways his firm can work with Innovate New Albany for mutual benefit. Agree to discuss again in 4th quarter of 2018.

 

  • Wed Jun 6 – Attended innovation event hosted by Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship of The Ohio State University. Networked with attendees and provided info about Innovate New Albany.

 

  • Thu Jun 7 – Attended the Smart Columbus Ride & Drive Event at Center for Automotive Research of The Ohio State University. Inquired about bringing this traveling hands-on demonstration event to Innovate New Albany during Summer / Fall 2018.

 

  • Thu Jun 14 – Met with Jon Milenthal, a New Albany resident who is seriously exploring the idea of launching a non-profit retail-focused business incubator. As one possibility, Jon is considering locating this new venture in New Albany. I brainstormed with Jon regarding possible locations and provided contact info for Dick Roggenkamp of The New Albany Company.

 

  • Thu Jun 21 – Hosted Jason Fleagle, Columbus-based entrepreneur, at Innovate NA. Explained mission of Innovate NA, provided a tour, and explored ways Jason might contribute or collaborate with Innovate. Jason is interested in doing a TIGER Talk, possibly in Q1 of 2019.

 

  • Mon Jun 25 – Hosted Jinji Yue, Founder of CareGiver USA, at Innovate NA. Explained mission of Innovate NA, provided a tour, and listened to Jinji’s company pitch. Provided feedback and listened to Jinji’s current business needs.

 

  • Thu Jun 28 – Hosted Akron-based business development professional, Lynda Gallagher, of tech startup AutoLeadStar. Explained mission of Innovate NA, provided a tour, and introduced Lynda to Innovate New Albany tenant, Justin Bay of DOM360. Lynda and Justin are both key players in startups seeking to succeed by innovating in the digital auto sales space.
