Five startup businesses that run the gamut from lifestyles to life sciences recently were selected from among 162 applicants to accelerate the pace of their growth in a matter of months instead of the typical years it takes to launch a viable concept.
A collaboration between TechColumbus, Columbus State Community College and Columbus College of Art & Design with support from Ohio Third Frontier, the startups were chosen by a panel of business leaders and entrepreneurs after formal presentations in October as part of the 1492 accelerator program.
Each of the five participants will receive a $20,000 grant and will embark on an 11-week program of coaching and business mentoring – the end result of which is to launch a viable product or service by mid January 2012.
