New Albany Gaining Critical Mass in Retail

A culmination of factors, from the addition of more than 4,500 jobs since 2009 to the development of The Core – New Albany Center for Healthy Living at Market Square, is fueling retail growth that includes the development of the city’s second hotel and a new fitness studio.

The Hampton Inn & Suites will build a 114-room hotel featuring 31 suites, a fitness center, indoor pool and conference center on a 2.4-acre site.

Meanwhile, franchisee Emily Johnson will open her third Pure Barre, a studio that offers low-impact classes using a ballet barre, at 180 Market Street, an area that continues to gain traction as a pedestrian-friendly retail destination and future home to The Core. The first of its kind in the region, The Core is an integrated medical, fitness and wellness community center that is being developed in partnership with the city, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Healthy New Albany.

Innovate New Albany, the city’s incubator for technology startups, entrepreneurs and small businesses, features 16,000 square feet of space within the New Albany Business Park’s Signature Office Building, 8000 Walton Parkway.
