Treadmill Desk Use Expands in Central Ohio
A trend recently reported in our Innovate New Albany blog is gaining traction across central Ohio. A Columbus Dispatch article notes that treadmill desks are among the health-related initiatives taking place at the Ohio State Wexner Medical Center and Resource, a Columbus-based interactive marketing firm. The concept was first tested at Aetna’s New Albany offices.
While health care specialists and researchers have traditionally focused on the typical culprits that contribute to elevated risks of heart disease and certain types of cancer, including smoking, alcohol, stress, sleep and nutrition, new research suggests that a sedentary lifestyle is also a problem. In fact, according to research cited in the article, active, nonsmoking individuals who sit for more than three hours decrease their life expectancy by two years.
