The New Albany Walking Classic has opened registration for what is billed as the largest walking-only event in the United States. Registration for the event that attracts everyone from Olympic-caliber athletes to recreational walkers is limited to the first 3,000 entrants for the half marathon or 10k events.

This year’s event takes place at 8 am on Sunday, September 8 at Market Square in downtown New Albany. The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is the Title Sponsor. Other sponsors include Aetna, 10TV’s Commit to Be Fit, Justice and AEP.

The classic is organized by Healthy New Albany, a 501c3 nonprofit that provides events and activities throughout the city to promote community health and wellness, including lunch ‘n learn sessions for area employees, community gardens and a Farmer’s Market.
