Pelotonia Announces New Opening Ceremony Venue and Saturday Start
In keeping with routes that cycle through Ohio’s verdant and scenic countryside, Pelotonia 12 will wind its way through New Albany’s woodlands, meadows and pastures. In fact, this year, three routes, including the 50, 155 and 180-mile, will end in New Albany.
And that is not the only link to the city. The event spawned a New Albany women’s peloton aptly named the Girls with Gears that trains together. Meanwhile, Sloan Spalding, a member of New Albany City Council ranked among the event’s top finishers last year.
In its fourth year, approximately 6,000 riders are expected to participate in Pelotonia, the grassroots bike tour that takes place over a three-day weekend, August 10 – 12, 2012. Pelotonia offers six route options with varying mileages and fundraising minimums, for cyclists with a wide range of riding abilities. Since its inception, 100 percent of every dollar raised by riders goes directly to cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.
The event kicks off on Friday, August 10, 2012, thousands of riders, guests and volunteers will gather on the lawn at Columbus Commons, the newly opened 9-acre green space in downtown Columbus. To learn more or register, visit Pelotonia.
