Sensu Music fills the music industry’s data gap

Sensu Music originated in New York, moved to California, and picked up Ari Schottenstein along the way. Ari, a New Albany native, is Sensu Music’s VP of Business Development, a position that he stumbled upon thanks to his love for music and business.

The company aims to become the go-to data provider for the music industry. The complete iteration of Sensu Music will have a dashboard for everyone involved in music business—artists, promoters, venues, labels, and music lovers—to ultimately become the digital hub of music management.

Sensu Music launched its online platform in November 2016 (read a press release here). The platform is designed to help users manage talent booking, decide artist tour locations, track digital brands, capture artist data, and make on-the-spot purchasing decisions. Venues are able to rate artists based on the quality of their shows, ticket sales, bar sales, etc., and artists can rate venues as well.

According to the press release, “Sensu provides a workflow in digital booking that creates transparency to eliminate any wasted time when determining if an event is possible or not.” The iOS and Android platforms will be released this year.

Before joining Sensu Music, Ari independently consulted and managed hip hop artists, starting with his best friend whose first EP is about to drop.

Interestingly enough, Ari earned a degree in history from Otterbein University.

“If you don’t know history, you don’t know anything, really,” Ari said. “I wanted a major that equipped me with the tools to use for entrepreneurship. I felt history would equip me with those skills.”

He knew he would be an entrepreneur from day one, thanks to the inspiration of his family.

“That always subconsciously and formally motivated me to live up to the family name and take after them,” Ari said. “I’ve always had entrepreneurship in me and wanted to live life on my terms.”

With 4 founders from Buffalo, the Sensu Music team has now grown to 8 people and moved to Los Angeles.

When it comes to success, Ari has one motto:

“I focus on putting the energy out into the world that I want to receive.”
