TechColumbus Showcases Innovators and Innovations

Judging by the incredible talent showcased at TechColumbus’ annual 2012 Innovation Awards, Central Ohio and New Albany are hotbeds of innovation and entrepreneurship, from aspiring high school scientists to accomplished CEOs.

New Albany Plain Local High School student Max Yudovich, a classical pianist who speaks fluent Russian and recently completed an internship at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, received the student innovation award and a 529 College Savings account in the amount of $2,500.

Among the New Albany semi-finalists was Jerry Armstrong, president of CVG – Commercial Vehicle Group’s North and South American markets, who led the small, private company to become a global force as a supplier of integrated solutions for commercial vehicles. Semi-finalist Venture Highway, an integrated learning platform for entrepreneurs, received funding from NCT Ventures, a venture capital firm led by New Albany residents, Rich Langsdale and Michael Butler. Four other companies with ties to New Albany, including three businesses that got their start at Innovate New Albany, New Albany’s incubator for technology startups, were also semi-finalists, including:

• Softsyl Technologies, a New Albany incubator company that specializes in voice and telephony technologies.
• Capture Educational Consulting Services, a company that provides IT solutions to maximize teacher and student performance, was a semi-finalist for best product.
• Brad Griffith, founder and president of one of the city’s first incubator companies, Buckeye Interactive, a digital marketing agency, was a semi-finalist for outstanding service for companies under 250 employees.
