Tenant Spotlight: Meet Adam Karen Bdoyan, CEO & Founder of ShowMe

Adam Karen Bdoyan founded ShowMe, an EdTech startup, in 2009. It turns touchscreen devices, such as an iPad, into a personal interactive whiteboard. Teachers can easily record voice-over lessons and share them with their private classroom or with a community of teachers and students.

ShowMe allows teachers to make the flipped classroom a reality. By recording lectures for students to watch at home, teachers are using class time to inspire group collaboration and project-based learning.

What is your background?

Ever since high school, I was always the “math guy.” I hold an undergraduate degree in physics, and an MBA from New York Institute of Technology. I’m also a member of Delta Mu Delta Honor Society. I’ve worked in the software industry since 2001. Prior to ShowMe, I built and successfully sold two software companies.

What made you decide to start your business?

I love technology and I believe that we can learn much faster if we properly use technology in education. It’s here where my two passions met – learning and technology.

What is your “secret sauce”?

I think my unique life-path is in fact my “secret sauce.” My education in theoretical physics helps me ask and see the big picture, my experience in engineering helps me build products, and my background in business helps me deliver, sell and communicate with people. Not to mention my cultural heritage – Armenian from Soviet Union, Immigrant and finally US Citizen.

If you had one piece of advice to give a new business owner, what would it be?

The only thing that matters in business is how good you are at making money.

How has your business grown and changed since it first started?

We have grown to 10M iPad users and 20M web users. Our users are coming from 60K different schools from all over the world. There have been 4M ShowMe lessons created through our platform so far.
