Behind most websites is a database. Behind most business software is a database. In today’s data driven world, knowing how to access and collect information from a database is a valuable asset to possess. The most popular and time tested way to interact with a database is by using SQL.

In simple terms, Structured Query Language (SQL) is a standardized way to communicate with a Database System. Using SQL, you can create, manipulate, and analyze structured data. Having an understanding of SQL fundamentals will allow you to better understand the complex computer and data systems that have become a staple of modern life.

SQL can be confusing and overwhelming, especially if you’re not very familiar with it. We want to show you that it doesn’t have to be! It’s our goal that our workshop provides a thorough introduction into SQL and its most basic functionalities. We also want to see you practice SQL on your own!

By attending our workshop, you’ll learn:

  • What is a database?

    • What types of databases exist, and how are they used?

  • SQL Fundamentals, including:

    • Language structure

    • Data Definition Language (DDL)

    • Data Manipulation Language (DML)

  • Hands-on practice with sample database using SQL queries to retrieve, update, delete data and much more.

At the end of the workshop you will have a basic knowledge of databases and SQL. You will be able to write basic SQL queries, and that will help you learn advanced SQL in the future!
