Angel investing can be ideal for many startups looking for funding and a champion. Join John Huston, a founding member of Ohio TechAngel Funds (OTAF), and Parker MacDonell, Managing Director of Ohio TechAngel Funds for a discussion about one of the largest angel groups in the U.S.
OTAF invests in highly promising, Ohio-based companies in IT, advanced materials, and life sciences. More than 300 high net worth, accredited investors have joined one or more of OTAF’s funds, making Ohio a thriving innovation hub.

After a thirty-year commercial banking career, John Huston became an angel investor in 2000. He launched the first Ohio TechAngel Fund in 2004 and managed the group’s first four funds until 2015 when Rev1 Ventures became the Manager, and Parker MacDonell became Managing Director. Today the Ohio TechAngels are investing from their fifth fund and have supported over 63 Ohio-based start-ups. John has served as the Chairman of The Angel Capital Association, which is the North American federation of 13,000+ angel investors and angel groups. He remains active as Chairman Emeritus. As an individual angel, John has invested in 65 Ohio ventures.
Parker MacDonell leads the Ohio TechAngel Funds, which invest in seed-stage Ohio companies. He formerly led the Rev1 Advisor Network, matching engaged client companies with business leaders for one-on-one advice and mentoring. Parker holds a BA in Music from Dartmouth College and a Masters of Public and Private Management from the Yale School of Management. His favorite quote is “Stay loose, and play tight!” singer Chuck Berry’s instructions to his backup band the first time they took the stage.
