Whether we use Excel, Google Sheets, PowerPoint, Google Data Studio, Tableau, R, some other platform, or (most likely) some combination of platforms, at the end of the day, in business, a core mechanism we use for communicating with our stakeholders is data visualization. The difference between an excellent visualization and a mediocre one can easily be the difference between whether a stakeholder understands and acts upon the data or whether she, instead, struggles to internalize the information and actually put it to use.

In this TIGER Talk, Tim Wilson will walk through some of the neuroscience and psychology that underpins best practices in data visualization, as well as provide platform-agnostic tactical tips that put these principles to effective use.

Tim Wilson is a Senior Analytics Director at Search Discovery, a data transformation company headquartered in Atlanta, with an office in Cleveland, and remote workers scattered far and wide.

Tim has been working with digital data full-time since 2001 in a variety of roles: from managing a web analytics platform migration and developing analytics processes as the head of the business intelligence department at a $500 million high tech B2B company; to creating and growing the analytics practices at three different agencies that worked with a range of large consumer brands; to consulting with the digital analytics teams at Fortune 500 companies on their strategies, processes, and tactics for effectively putting their digital data to actionable use.

Tim is a long-time creator of pragmatic content for analysts and marketers, including co-hosting the bi-weekly Digital Analytics Power Hour podcast ( and co-creating — a site dedicated to encouraging analysts to learn the R programming language and apply statistical methods to their data.
