Harley Blakeman is Founder & CEO of Honest Jobs, a jobs platform helping people impacted by the criminal justice system find employment fast. In this TIGER Tale, participants will learn about Harley’s personal journey that led to him create, launch, and now scale Honest Jobs.
Harley and the CTO of Honest Jobs, Mark Doyle, will describe some of their struggles and successes over the company’s first two years of business. They’ll also describe how their technology is helping people impacted by the criminal justice system find employment faster. And, finally, they will give you an insider’s view into their recent experience going through the Techstars Workforce Development Accelerator and their ambitious plans to scale, helping vastly more individuals, their families, and our society at large.
***************
Harley Blakeman was a homeless teenager in Georgia for several years before getting arrested for selling drugs and being sentenced to 14 months in prison. After Harley’s release from prison, he moved to Columbus (Ohio) where he attended The Ohio State University studying Business Administration. In 2017, he authored and published the book “GRIT: How to Get a Job and Build a Career with a Criminal Record.” After experiencing success in corporate business roles, Harley left in 2018 to start Honest Jobs.
Mark Doyle is a “software nerd” who considers himself incredibly fortunate to be the CTO of Honest Jobs. Prior to joining, he was working on his own software startup, MailJive, a resident company at Innovate New Albany. Mark has been a software consultant and startup enthusiast for years, leveraging his experience to help companies be more efficient and productive. He finds it especially rewarding to do this while helping the under-served community – namely people with criminal records. Mark is also an organizer for 1 Million Cups Columbus (because he needs even more things to do). Mark lives in New Albany with his wife and kids. They are Texas transplants and, other than a critical lack of great tacos and queso, they love living in the Midwest! (yes, even the cold)
